Waquoit Bay was designated a No Discharge Area in March of 1994. There are two pumpout facilities available to service vessels in the Waquoit bay. The location of the pumpouts are at the Edwards Boat Yard and the Little River Boat Yard. Perry Ellis is a harbormaster in a Town that is fledgling. There are almost 10,000 residents in this town, but where are they? All that's seen is trees. Yet drive down an inconspicuous side road and suddenly there are the homes, a whole neighborhood worth, neatly packaged in a landscaped subdivision. Mashpee citizens are living their own history. The town is shiny-new, like a freshly minted penny. They've seen the village center built up right before their eyes. They built the town's first high school. They've established a premier wildlife refuge. They've built roads and a police station and a fire station. Plans are underway for a Boys and Girls Club and a performing arts center. "The idea that we're building a town is really exciting," James Vaccaro, Mashpee 1998 Citizen of the Year, said. "We're trying to build a community and develop our own culture. It's terrific." In most New England towns, the town predates its citizens by generations. In Mashpee, there isn't even a town cemetery. Now that's young! Community Information
